Our commitment to sustainability

At Peninsula Metal Recycling we are committed to sustainability and respect for the environment.

We have recently been recognised as an EcoBiz 3 star partner, reducing our energy and water consumption and reducing our landfill waste. Here we look at the importance of metal recycling and why we are committed to being an ethical scrap metal business.

The Benefits of Scrap Metal Recycling.

Making products from recycled metals uses less energy, reduces carbon emissions, and uses less water compared with using raw materials. When you recycle you aid the reduction of carbon emissions, which will reduce the severity of future climate change.

Reducing the amount of waste ending up in landfill is one of the most important roles of recycling. The material in landfill sites is often full of toxins.

Energy Conservation

Metal recycling conserves natural resources by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and using less energy than making metal from natural ore. The production of new metal releases a far greater amount of greenhouse gas emissions compared with making products from recycled metal. using scrap metal in lieu of virgin ore generates 97% less mining waste and uses 40% less water, according to the National Institute of Health.

If we recycled all of our metal we could save up to 92% of the energy that we currently use in regards to aluminium, 90% of the energy that we use for copper, and 56% of the energy that we waste on mining and creating steel.

Environmental Benefits

Recycling scrap metals helps to reduce the amount of bulk material that ends up in landfills.

Recycling scrap metal instead of mining for it significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Recycling helps prevent toxic chemical leaching from substances that are found in many electrical devices. If these products were to go to landfill they would leach into the surrounding soil and possibly end up in the air and water.

Saving energy

The amount of energy saved using various recycled metals compared to natural ore is up to:

0%
Aluminium
0%
Copper
0%
Steel

Economic Benefits

Recycling metal creates 36 times more jobs than sending the same amount of metal waste to the incinerator, and six times more than sending the metal to a landfill, according to the National Institute of Health.
